Why Standard Handling Isn't Enough

A lot of removalists are set up for volume, get the truck loaded fast, get it unloaded fast. That works fine for flat-pack furniture. It's the wrong approach for something irreplaceable. Our crews slow down for antique jobs, individual wrapping instead of batch-wrapping, corner protection on anything with an edge, pieces loaded so nothing touches or shifts against something else in transit.

Handing Over Something Irreplaceable

This is usually the real question before someone books, is it actually safer to have professionals do this, or to do it yourself?

Moving it yourself means no training in how antique joinery, veneer or aged glass behaves under stress, no purpose-made padding for corners and edges, and doing the heavy lifting and awkward manoeuvring alone or with help that isn't experienced with fragile pieces. For most modern furniture that risk is manageable. For something with age-related weaknesses, it usually isn't.

Booking an antique removalist means a crew that's handled joinery, veneer, glass and pendulum mechanisms before, individual wrapping rather than batch handling, and transit insurance that's actually appropriate for what's being moved. The piece still has to be handled, the question is just who's doing the handling.

Insurance for Irreplaceable Items

Every move we run includes transit cover as standard, but for something genuinely high in value or historical significance, standard cover may not reflect what the piece is actually worth. If you have an item with a specific valuation, appraisal, or insurance requirement, tell us before the move so we can talk through the right level of cover, rather than finding out it mattered after something's already gone wrong.
