Pianos aren't like other furniture. An upright can weigh 200-300kg. A grand piano is often heavier, oddly balanced, and has legs that detach and a lid that needs securing before it goes anywhere.

Get it wrong and you're not just risking a scratch. Internal mechanisms can be knocked out of alignment, cases crack, and legs snap under weight they were never meant to carry sideways. That's an expensive mistake, and often not one insurance covers if the mover wasn't equipped for the job.

What Decides Piano Removalists Cost

Piano removalists cost depends on the type of piano, the distance it's travelling, and the access at both ends stairs, doorway width, whether there's a lift.

An upright piano moved within the same street costs less than a grand piano going interstate with two flights of stairs at the destination. We ask about all of this before quoting, so the number we give you doesn't change once the piano's already on the dolly.

You get one fixed price. Not a callout fee that turns into a bigger bill because the stairs were narrower than expected.

The Equipment Proper Piano Moving Actually Needs

Piano-specific gear, not general furniture equipment. Piano dollies built for the weight and shape. Skid boards for grand pianos. Heavy-duty straps rated for the load, not standard moving straps.

We pad the case, corners and legs before it moves an inch, and we secure the lid so it can't shift or drop during transport. For grand pianos, legs typically come off for the move and get reattached carefully at the other end.

Crew size matches the piano. An upright usually needs three to four movers. A grand piano, especially with stairs involved, often needs more. We work this out at quote stage, not by seeing what shows up on the day.
