A Tiny Forest Community in the Otways

Barramunga is a small area in the Colac Otway Shire, postcode 3249. It sits deep in the Otway Ranges, about 25 km north of Apollo Bay. Most of the land is forest. Only 11 people lived here at the 2021 census.

Because homes are few and far apart, every removal in Barramunga is planned one job at a time, around your road and your home.

From Busy Mill Town to Quiet Bush

Barramunga was once a busy timber town. Tree cutting started in the 1880s, and a sawmill opened in 1890. There was a school, a hotel and a mill with 40 workers. The last mill closed in 1939, and a public hall was built in 1950.

Today it’s a quiet place with bush blocks and a handful of homes.

Forest Roads and Long Bush Driveways

Roads here wind through tall forest. Some are gravel or dirt, with sharp bends and low branches. Many homes have long driveways in the trees.

Tell us what your road and driveway are like, and where a truck can turn. If a big truck won’t fit, we’ll bring a smaller one. Photos help a lot.

Rain, Fog and Slippery Tracks

The Otways get a lot of rain. Fog, mud and wet leaves can make tracks slippery, even outside winter. If bad weather is coming, we’ll call you a few days before to talk about a backup date.

Forrest Is the Closest Town

Forrest is about 7 km north and has a few small shops. For bigger shopping, most people go to Colac or Apollo Bay. Get your boxes early, or ask us to bring packing materials. We can also store your things if your new home isn’t ready.

Common Problems We See During Barramunga Moves

Most of these are easy to fix with a short message before moving day.

Hard to Find in the Bush

Many forest homes have no clear number, and phone signal can drop out. Send us a map pin and a nearby landmark, so we find you fast.

Too Many Bends for a Big Truck

Sharp turns and low branches can stop a large truck. Send photos of your road first, and we’ll pick a truck that fits.

Branches Down After a Storm

Storms can drop branches across forest roads. Keep a backup date in mind, and we’ll check the weather with you before the day.

Pool Table Mentioned on the Day

A pool table needs special tools to take apart and set up. Tell us about it when you ask for a quote, so we come ready.

Only a Few Things to Move

If you only have a few items, a full truck may be more than you need. Ask about our man with a van service for small loads.
