A Dairy and Timber Village on the Barwon River’s Headwaters in the Otway Foothills

Barwon Downs grew up on the east branch of the Barwon River, where it runs down the slopes of the Otways. A railway from Birregurra came through in 1891, bringing timber and farming growth, but it closed in 1957. Today it’s a small farming community of about 136 people. The old general store has closed, so plan your boxes and tape early, or ask us to bring them.

Hilly Downs, Tree-Lined Lanes and Sloping Driveways Shape Every Moving Plan

The “downs” in the name refers to the hilly land. Many homes sit on large blocks with long, sloping driveways and tall trees close by. Low branches and tight turns can stop a big truck. Send us photos of your driveway and parking area, and we’ll choose a truck that fits and plan the carry from truck to door.

Furniture Removalists Barwon Downs Homes Rely On for Solid, Heavy Country Pieces

Farmhouses here often hold solid timber tables, big wardrobes and old family pieces. As furniture removalists Barwon Downs locals trust, we wrap every item in blankets and shrink wrap and strap it tight in the truck. We take apart and rebuild beds and tables, so they fit through doors without knocks or scratches. See our furniture removals service.

Getting an Old Cast-Iron Bathtub Out of a Country Bathroom Safely

Older homes in the area sometimes have heavy cast-iron or clawfoot tubs. These can weigh close to 200 kg and are hard to get through narrow doors. As professional bathtub removalists Barwon-Downs renovators can call, we plan the lift, protect floors and doorframes, and load the tub safely. Learn more about our bathtub removalists.

Planning a Barwon Downs to Melbourne Move Without the Long-Day Stress

A move from the Otway foothills to the city is a long day with two very different ends. A rural driveway at one end, and often a tight street or apartment at the other. As Barwon Downs to Melbourne removalists, we plan both. We set an early start, check access at your new address and wrap everything for the long drive.

Common Slip-Ups on Otway Foothill Moves and How We Prevent Them

The truck can’t get up the driveway. Slopes and low trees cause trouble. Photos before the quote solve this.

Heavy items weren’t mentioned. A cast-iron tub or solid sideboard needs extra planning. List them up front.

No supplies close by. There’s no store in town now. Get boxes early or ask us to bring them.

Starting too late. Long trips need daylight at both ends. Book an early start.

Wet weather on soft ground. Rain can make gravel driveways soft. Keep a backup date in mind.
