Moving in Almurta: What Makes It Different

Expert Movers is a removalist team with 10+ years in the industry, more than 5,000 completed moves and a 4.9★ average rating from 200+ customer reviews. If you're searching for removalists Almurta reviews, those are the numbers to check before you book. Almurta is a rural area of farms and lifestyle blocks, so a move here is about the property, not the street. Here's what we plan for.

A quiet rural locality in the Bass Coast hills

Almurta is a small locality in the Bass Coast Shire, with 66 people at the 2021 census. It runs along Glen Alvie Road, about 25 km north of Wonthaggi. The surrounding country is rolling hills and farmland, mostly dairy and other rural uses.

Because it's so small, there's no shopping strip, depot or street parking to rely on. We plan every Almurta job around the property and the road in, and we show you the full price before you commit.

A cluster of tiny places with no street signs to follow

Almurta sits beside several other small places: Kernot about 2.5 km to the north-east, Glen Forbes about 3.5 km west, Adams Estate about 5 km north-west, Glen Alvie about 8 km south-east and The Gurdies about 9 km north. Roads such as Grantville-Glen Alvie Road, Almurta-Glen Forbes Road and Kernot-Loch Road link them.

On rural roads like these, a street address isn't always enough for a crew to find the right gate. Give us a map pin and a nearby landmark. The Kernot Food and Wine Store, in business since 1911, is the main gathering point in neighbouring Kernot, and the Kernot CFA and Candowie Reservoir are other known points. A landmark and a pin save a lot of phone calls on the day.

Acreage, lifestyle blocks and working farms

Almurta property listings range from small lifestyle blocks of a few acres to farms of 300 acres or more. A move from a 2.5-acre block is a different job from a move off a working farm.

On a lifestyle block, the load is mostly house contents plus sheds, garden gear and outdoor furniture. On a working farm, there are also gates, stock and long tracks to think about. Tell us which one you have. We move household belongings, not farm machinery or livestock, so please arrange those separately.

Grantville and the Bass Highway

Grantville, a town of about 830 people on the Bass Highway, is the nearest bigger stop, and it's a popular stopping point for visitors travelling to and from Phillip Island. Holiday periods can bring more traffic on the highway.

If your date falls in a school holiday or a long weekend, let us know. We'll plan the timing so the truck isn't stuck in visitor traffic. Wonthaggi, Korumburra and Loch are the nearby centres for shops and services, so it helps to have packing supplies ready, or to ask us to supply them.

Moving off the land

Many moves from rural properties are downsizes, from a large block to a smaller home in a town. If your new place is smaller, we offer storage, and we supply materials for packing and unpacking. Tell us early, and we'll plan the dates around yours.

Common Problems We See During Almurta Moves

These are the issues that most often slow down a rural property move. Most can be solved with a short message before the day.

The crew can't find the gate. Rural roads and small hamlets make a street number hard to follow. Send a map pin, a landmark and two phone numbers.

The truck doesn't suit the driveway. A long driveway, a narrow gate or a soft track can stop a long truck. Send photos before we quote, and we'll choose a truck that fits.

The sheds were left off the list. On acreage, outbuildings and garden gear can be a big part of the load. List everything, so the truck and the hours match the job.

Holiday traffic on the highway. The Bass Highway near Grantville can be busy at peak holiday times. Tell us your date, and we'll plan the timing.

The Five-Minute Call: What We'll Ask, So You Can Be Ready

When you contact us, these are the questions we'll ask. Having the answers ready gets you a quote faster.

1. Which property and which road? We want the number, the road name, a map pin and a nearby landmark.
2. How do we get in? Tell us about the gate, the driveway length and the surface.
3. What's moving? List the rooms, plus sheds, outbuildings and anything outdoors.
4. Is anything heavy or awkward? Pianos, pool tables and large wardrobes need a bigger crew and more time.
5. When do you need us? For a weekend, book early. For short notice, call and we'll tell you what's free.
6. Where is it going? Give us the second address and any access notes there too.

Send us the answers and a few photos, and we'll turn them into a written quote.
