Baw Baw Shire covers more than 4,000 km² of [West Gippsland](LINK: Gippsland region page), about 100 km east of Melbourne. Its population grew from 48,479 in 2016 to 57,626 in 2021, and the council expects about 87,000 people by 2041. That growth means a lot of people moving in, moving up and moving between towns.

What Should You Know About Moving to Baw Baw?

Baw Baw is a large shire with very different areas, so the right plan depends on where you're going.

• The south is the growth area. Warragul and Drouin sit along the Princes Freeway and the Gippsland railway line. The council has rezoned about 2,400 hectares as Urban Growth Zone, with nearly 20,000 housing lots proposed across the two towns.
• The north is hillier and more remote. The northern half of the shire is mostly forestry country, rising towards the Baw Baw Plateau. Expect winding roads and longer drive times.
• Mount Baw Baw is different again. The alpine resort sits at more than 1,400 metres, about 120 km from Melbourne. Its main road access is the Mount Baw Baw Tourist Road, and the eastern South Face Road is unsealed.

Moving Around Baw Baw: A Town-by-Town Guide

Each town brings its own type of move. Here's a quick guide to the main ones.

Whichever town you're in, you get the same thing: a written quote that covers loading, the drive and unloading.

Moving From Melbourne to Baw Baw

A move from Melbourne to Baw Baw has two very different ends. The old place may be an apartment or townhouse in the city. The new place is often a family home on a bigger block.

Book the Melbourne end first. If you're leaving an apartment, book the lift and loading dock with your building manager. Ask whether the truck needs a parking permit for the street.

Plan for the distance. Warragul is about 102 km from Melbourne, so the truck spends real time on the road. We build the drive into your quote, not as a surprise extra.

Think about the new house. Moving from a two-bedroom apartment into a four-bedroom home? You'll have empty rooms. Buy new furniture after you move, and we can bring larger items across as single-item moves later.

Use storage if dates don't line up. If your Melbourne lease ends before your Baw Baw settlement, our own storage facility can hold everything until the keys are ready.

Common Problems We See During Baw Baw Moves

Most issues come from the gap between the old home and the new one. These are the ones to watch.

The apartment lift isn't booked. Without a lift booking, the crew may have to wait or use stairs. Book it as soon as you have a moving date.

Nowhere to load at the Melbourne end. City streets often have little space for a truck. Check with your building or council about loading zones and permits before moving day.

Unfinished estate streets in Warragul or Drouin. New estates can have kerbs, footpaths or driveways still being built. Tell us your estate name and lot number if the street address isn't live yet.

Rural access in the north. Long, steep or narrow driveways around Neerim South and the hills can slow a big truck. Describe your access when you ask for a quote.

A rental end date that doesn't match settlement. It's common to have a few days, or weeks, between homes. Book storage early rather than at the last minute.

Removalist Prices in Baw Baw: How Your Quote Works

Your price depends on how much you're moving, access at both ends and how far it is. Lifts, stairs and long carries at either home add time, so mention them up front.
