Moving in Belgrave Heights: What Makes It Different

Expert Movers is a Melbourne removalist team with 10+ years in the industry, more than 5,000 completed moves and a 4.9★ average rating from 200+ customer reviews. For moving house in Belgrave Heights, the shape of the land matters more than the size of the suburb. Here's what we plan for.

A small, bushy suburb of detached homes

Belgrave Heights covers only about 1.7 square kilometres, with around 1,400 residents. It's a low-density suburb of almost entirely detached houses, and many of them sit on steep or sloping blocks surrounded by mature trees. Lot sizes tend to be larger than the Melbourne average, and the suburb is 36 km from the CBD and about 2 km from Belgrave.

For a move, that means big loads and long carries. A family home on a large block usually has a full garage, a shed, a deck and outdoor furniture on top of the usual rooms. We size the truck from the whole property, not just the number of bedrooms.

Slopes, steps and tree cover

The terrain is the main thing that makes a Belgrave Heights move different. A driveway can drop steeply from the street, and paths and steps can wind through the garden to the front door. Mature vegetation also means low branches and leaf litter that gets slippery in wet weather.

Before we quote, we ask about the slope, the surface, the steps and any branches over the drive. A photo of the driveway from the street and from the house is usually enough. With that, we can pick a truck that fits and plan where the carry starts, so the day isn't slower or heavier than it needs to be.

Next to Birdsland and Mount Morton Road

Birdsland Reserve is a 75-hectare bushland reserve on Mt Morton Road, and Monbulk Creek forms part of the suburb's northern edge. Homes near the reserve and the creek are surrounded by bush, with narrower and more wooded access than the streets nearer Belgrave.

If you live near Mt Morton Road or the reserve edge, tell us. We'll check whether a larger truck suits the street, and plan the route in and out.

Events at the Convention grounds

The Belgrave Heights Convention grounds on Lockwood Road are a long-standing local landmark, with a large auditorium and several older buildings. Large events there can bring extra visitors and cars to the surrounding streets.

If your moving date falls near a big event, tell us your street. We'll plan the timing and the truck position so you don't lose time in traffic or parking.

Where Belgrave Heights moves go next

Many moves head to nearby Belgrave, Belgrave South, Tecoma, Selby and Lysterfield. Some are moves to a smaller place, which often means furniture that won't fit. For that, we offer packing and unpacking and storage.

Common Problems We See During Belgrave Heights Moves

These are the problems that most often slow down a hillside block move. Most take a few minutes to solve in advance.

A steep driveway that wasn't mentioned. The truck can't get close, so the crew carries further and the job takes longer. Photos at quote time let us plan for it.

Low branches and slippery ground. Tree cover can limit which truck fits, and wet leaves and bark make steps and paths risky. Tell us about the access and the weather forecast, and we'll plan around them.

The shed and deck left off the list. On a large block, outbuildings and outdoor furniture can be a big part of the load. Include everything, so the truck and the hours match the job.

Event-day traffic near Lockwood Road. A big gathering at the Convention grounds can make nearby streets busy. Check your date, and tell us if it's close to an event.

The wrong Belgrave on the booking. Belgrave Heights, Belgrave and Belgrave South share postcode 3160, but they're different suburbs. Always give us your street and suburb name, so the route and the plan are right. If you're in Belgrave itself, see our Belgrave removalists page.

Belgrave Heights Moving Checklist: If This, Then That

Work through this list. Each line shows what to do for a common situation.

• If your driveway is steep: photograph it from the street and from the house, and note the slope and surface.
• If there are steps or garden paths: count the steps and tell us how far it is from the street to the door.
• If trees overhang the drive or street: tell us about low branches, so we can pick the right truck.
• If your block is large: list the shed, garage, deck and outdoor furniture as well as the rooms.
• If you live near Mt Morton Road or the reserve: tell us how wide and wooded the street is.
• If your date is near an event on Lockwood Road: tell us your street, and we'll plan around the traffic.
• If your new place is smaller: book storage in advance, and decide what's coming and what's staying.
• If you have a piano, pool table or heavy wardrobe: tell us where it is and what the access looks like.

Send us the photos and the list and we'll turn them into a written quote.

Moving Costs in Belgrave Heights

Two quotes for the same house can look very different, and the reasons are usually in the details, not the hourly rate. Our rates are $130 an hour for a 3 tonne truck, $140 for a 4.5 tonne, $180 for an 8 tonne and $200 for a 10 tonne, for a crew of two. You get the total in a fixed written quote before you commit.

When you compare moving quotes Belgrave Heights residents receive, check what's behind each number. Does it include the drive? Is there a minimum number of hours? Are there fuel or weekend charges? On a hillside move, the time spent on the carry also changes the hours, which is why we ask about slope and steps first.

Our listed truck rates carry no fuel surcharge, weekend moves cost the same as weekday moves and there are no hidden fees afterwards. Insurance is optional, and we explain your choices at quote time so you can decide.
